Connect Claude to Gmail, Notion, Chrome and your website

November 2, 2026 · Clever Bean

Connecting Claude to your business tools takes minutes. Deciding what it may read and send is the part that deserves your time.

Gmail and Notion connect from Claude's connector settings: choose the app, click Connect and approve the permissions on the sign-in screen. Chrome needs the Claude in Chrome extension and a paid plan. For your website, Claude can work inside your admin pages through Chrome, and the permissions you grant decide how much it can see or send.

How do I connect Claude to Gmail?

In Claude, open the connectors settings, find Gmail and click Connect. Google then shows its own sign-in screen. Pick the mailbox you want to link, read the permissions and approve them. One walkthrough written in September 2026 from Anthropic's help center says the Gmail, Calendar and Drive connectors are available to all users on Claude and Claude Desktop. Menu labels change, so follow the names you see on your screen.

A practical note for owners with a shared info@ address: connect the mailbox you personally answer from, and begin with a task that only reads, such as summarising last week's supplier threads.

What permissions does Claude need to read my Gmail or Notion?

To read, Claude needs permission to see your messages. The Gmail connector goes further. The same walkthrough reports that Claude can draft emails and can also send, reply to and forward them, and that Google's sign-in screen mentions sending permission. Treat the Gmail connection as read and write.

For Notion, the sign-in screen shows which workspace and pages you are sharing. Read that screen line by line. Share the pages Claude needs, such as product notes or an order log, and leave out pages holding payroll, contracts or customer personal data.

The rule that works for both: grant the narrowest access that gets the job done, then widen it later.

How do I connect Claude to Notion?

The path follows the same pattern as Gmail: connectors settings, choose Notion, click Connect, sign in to Notion and choose the workspace and pages to share. Then ask Claude a question that only your Notion pages can answer, to confirm it is reading the right ones.

I could not verify the current Notion steps or the plans that include them against Anthropic's own pages for this guide, so check the connectors directory on your own plan before you plan around it. Where a connector is missing for a tool you use, the Chrome route below works on the website version of that tool.

Can Claude access my Chrome browser?

Yes, through the Claude in Chrome extension. Anthropic announced that Claude in Chrome is generally available on every paid Claude plan, and you install it from the Chrome Web Store. A write-up from October 2026 adds that it needs desktop Google Chrome. Edge, Brave and phones do not count.

The extension reads the pages you are signed in to, clicks and fills in forms. That reach is the point and the risk. One review notes that Claude in Chrome works with websites and internal tools even when no dedicated connector or API exists, which makes it the fallback for software without a Gmail-style connector.

Claude in Chrome approval modes

What happens
Claude pauses for your OK before each action
Where it fits
First week on any task, anything touching money or customers
Your effort
Highest: you click through every step

Chrome has three approval modes. Manual stops for your OK on every action, Auto lets Claude work while blocking actions it judges unsafe and Skip removes the pauses and the checks. Begin with Manual, move to Auto once a task has run cleanly several times and keep Skip for a browser profile with nothing sensitive in it. Source: usecarly.com, 2026-07.

How do I connect Claude to my website?

A website has no single connector, because it is a collection of things: the pages, the admin screen where you manage orders and the chat your customers use. Pick the route that matches your goal.

  • You want help running the site. Use Claude in Chrome inside your admin screens, in Manual mode, for jobs like updating product descriptions or checking a draft order list.
  • You want customers answered. That is a different job from your own assistant. The Sales Manager answers customers on your website day and night, in their language, from your real product data. The Sales Manager shows products, drops links, books calls and hands anything uncertain to you. It costs $297 a month with setup included, and the page lets you try it on your own site.
  • You want single repeat jobs handled. The automations page lists them with prices, and a person approves every output before a customer sees it.

Nobody can promise revenue from any of these. A connected tool saves time. Sales come from the weekly loop of deciding, publishing and reading the numbers.

Which Claude plan supports connecting business apps?

It depends on the app. The walkthrough cited above reports that the Gmail, Calendar and Drive connectors are available to all users. Claude in Chrome needs a paid plan, which means Pro, Max or any Team or Enterprise plan. Another review notes that browser actions draw from the same usage pool as the rest of your Claude activity, so heavy browser tasks use up your allowance faster.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an admin decides who can use Chrome and which sites Claude may visit, using allowlists and blocklists. If the extension is missing for you at work, ask your admin before you reinstall anything.

Is it safe to give Claude access to my business tools?

It is as safe as the access you grant and the checking you keep. Anthropic's announcement says a safety classifier validates each action before it is performed in Chrome. The same review also says Anthropic describes browser agents as still facing prompt injection risk, which means a web page or an email can contain hidden instructions aimed at the AI. One review counted more than 15 browser permissions requested by the extension, which shows how much access it holds.

Anthropic bars Claude from some site categories, such as adult content and pirated content, and requires explicit permission before it touches financial services. Those guardrails are real and they leave residual risk. Your own setup covers the rest.

Before you connect any business tool

  • Details

Link the mailbox or workspace the task needs. Leave payroll, contracts and customer personal data out.

  • Details

Make a separate Chrome profile for Claude with no banking, health or government logins.

  • Details

Watch ten runs of a task before you allow Auto.

  • Details

Let Claude draft. You press send on anything that reaches a customer or supplier.

  • Details

Price floors, stock limits and channels Claude must never touch, kept in one note you can paste into any task.

  • Details

Disconnect apps you stopped using. Revoking access takes one click in the connected apps page of your Google account.

Six habits cover most of the risk: link only the account the task needs, give the browser its own profile, start in Manual mode, keep a person on every send, write down your hard rules and review connected apps each month. None needs technical skill. They take about an hour to set up once.

How do I troubleshoot a Claude connector that won't link to Gmail or Notion?

These steps come from general practice with sign-in connections and do not rest on an external source. Work through them in order.

  1. Check the account. Confirm you are signed in to the right Google or Notion account, and that your Claude plan includes the connector.
  2. Ask your admin. On a work Google Workspace, Notion workspace or Claude Team plan, an admin may have to allow the app first.
  3. Retry the sign-in. Allow pop-ups for the page, finish the Google or Notion screen without closing it and approve every permission box.
  4. Disconnect and reconnect. Remove the connector in Claude, revoke it in your Google or Notion account settings and connect again.
  5. Check the browser. Try another browser window with extensions off. For Claude in Chrome specifically, use desktop Google Chrome on a paid plan.
  6. Test with one narrow request. Ask for the subject lines of your last five emails or the title of one Notion page. A small test shows whether the link works before you build a task on it.

Which connection should you set up first?

Question 1 of 2

Where does most of your week go?

The right first connection depends on where your hours go. Email-heavy weeks suit Gmail drafting. Weeks spent hunting for product facts suit Notion. Admin clicking and repeat customer questions point at the website, where a check of how you appear in Google and AI assistants comes first. A sensitive mailbox argues for a narrower start in every case.

Is Claude in Chrome free?

No. It is available on the paid Claude plans: Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. It also needs desktop Google Chrome.

Can Claude send emails from my Gmail?

Yes. Connecting Gmail lets Claude draft, send, reply to and forward emails, so read every draft before it goes out.

Does Claude read my whole inbox?

The connector can search and read your messages. Link a mailbox you are comfortable with, and keep sensitive threads in a different account.

Can I disconnect Claude later?

Yes. Remove the connector in Claude and revoke access in your Google or Notion account settings.

Will connecting Claude get me online sales?

A connection saves time on drafts and admin. Sales depend on what you publish, who finds it and how your site handles an order, and results take time.
